Liberty still look like WNBA's team to beat after another blowout win

There is a long way to go in the 2025 WNBA regular season, but so far, the New York Liberty still look like the class of the league.

Of course, the Minnesota Lynx might have something to say about that. The Lynx are 3-0 and look every bit like a WNBA title contender.

However, New York is still wearing the crown. And if the first two games are any indication, stealing it away won't be easy.

In the first game of the season, Natasha Cloud scored 22 points, dished out nine assists and had six rebounds.

On Thursday night, in another double-digit win, this time a 25-point triumph (99-74) over the Chicago Sky, Cloud scored 18 points, an effort that included going 4-of-5 from three-point range.

As a team, New York knocked down 19, setting a new WNBA record. Kennedy Burke came off the bench to go 4-of-4 from three. Jonquel Jones added three triples, while Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu both finished with two.

Eight different Liberty players connected from beyond the arc. As a team, they shot 55.9 percent.

Yet, that's not why other WNBA teams should be worried. The Liberty just dominated what some expected to be a playoff contender by 25. They also got just 28 combined points from Stewart and Ionescu, their two best players.

And they still rolled. Not only is New York the best team in the WNBA. It's also the deepest.

The sample size is small, and it's early, but so far, Liberty looks like an even better team than the one that just cut down the nets.
