Logan Henderson sent down to Triple-A despite historic start

Starting pitcher Logan Henderson is off to one of the most dominant starts in MLB history, emerging as a needed star in Milwaukee’s injury-plagued starting rotation.

Coming into Sunday's game, the right-hander became the only pitcher in the modern era to strike out seven or more batters while earning a win in each of his first three career appearances, per Opta STATS.

In his fourth start on Sunday, he allowed just one run over five innings while striking out six. His ERA now sits at 1.71 across his first four outings — the lowest among all Milwaukee starting pitchers this season — while tallying 29 strikeouts in the process.

With 29 strikeouts and only four runs allowed, he finds himself in rare company. According to Curt Hogg, only one other pitcher since 1901 has matched or exceeded those numbers through their first four career starts. Henderson's 29 strikeouts are also the second-most by a Brewers pitcher through their first four career games, trailing only Freddy Peralta, who tallied 35.

Henderson relies on a 1-2 approach on the mound, built around two primary pitches: a four-seam fastball, thrown 47.3 percent of the time, and a changeup, thrown 41.3 percent. His fastball averages 93 mph — 1.6 mph below the MLB average for right-handed pitchers — while his changeup sits at 81.8 mph, well below the MLB average of 86.4 mph for right-handers.

Despite a historic start to his rookie season, the Brewers sent Henderson down to Triple-A on Monday. No specific reason has been announced for the move, despite Henderson being one of the best arms in Milwaukee’s rotation since being called up.

While the move is likely driven by a thin and overworked bullpen in need of reinforcements, Henderson’s demotion will remain questionable if he is not recalled in time for his next start.
