Even though the Yankees sit atop the American League East with a comfortable lead, they are far from a perfect team.
With mid-season injuries beginning to pile up and some pre-season worries coming to light, significant changes still need to be made to make the Bombers a World Series team.
It is nearly impossible to go an entire 162-game season and have no pitching injuries, and the Yankees are no stranger to them. With ace Gerrit Cole and 2024 Rookie of the Year Luis Gil both starting the season on the injured list, the back end of the rotation has been questionable to say the least.
While pitchers such as Will Warren and Ryan Yarbrough have stepped up to pitch some meaningful starts for the Bombers this season, it is not the show-stopping rotation they had hoped it would be in the winter.
The hot arm on the trade market this season is undoubtedly Sandy Alcantara, who has had a less-than-stellar start to his season, posting an 8.04 ERA through 10 starts, but he is only three seasons removed from being one of the best pitchers in the world.
Whether it be Alcantara or not, the Bombers are still one starter short of the dominant rotation they were hoping to have, and if moves are made, a pitcher will be at the forefront of Yankees general manager Brian Cashman's shopping list.

The Yankees' pivot after whiffing on the Juan Soto sweepstakes was quite impressive, but they still left fans unsatisfied heading into the season due to one main issue.
Third base has been a glaring hole for the Bombers over the past few years, barring the time Jazz Chisholm Jr. spent there during the second half of 2024, and it is no different to start 2025.
Oswaldo Cabrera seemed to be manager Aaron Boone's player of choice to start at the hot corner, but the spot has recently been filled by a revolving door of bench players after Cabrera sustained a season-ending injury.
Cashman has been on the hunt for a right-handed hitting third baseman since late winter, and the name that continues to fall into the conversation is St. Louis' Nolan Arenado. He fits all of the current Yankee needs, as he's a world-class fielder and an experienced hitter.
Another infielder has been on the wishlist of many Yankee fans for quite some time, and if they have championship hopes, they will have to plug that hole soon.

The 2024 Yankees were a very good team for many reasons, but one of the primary ones was lineup consistency.
Contrary to the other trades or signings that the Yankees could make by either spending money or assets, this change can be made for free.
Although the Bombers lead all MLB teams in home runs, on-base percentage, slugging and OPS, there are often stark differences in their offensive performances.
Some games may be an offensive explosion, while others may see them struggling to have two runners cross the plate. This is an unavoidable part of baseball, but the overall performance of the Bombers' lineup can change with the consistency of the top five batters, and it comes with establishing a leadoff hitter.
The 2024 Yankees had their lineups constructed the same way day in and day out, and it was one of the main factors behind their offensive success.

The Yankees are on the fast track back to the playoffs with high hopes of making it to the World Series once again, but getting it to the big dance is only half the battle, as they found out last year.
While they should have no problem cruising through the regular season, the playoffs are where it counts, and they still have many areas to improve on before calling themselves World Series-ready.
