Kentucky men's basketball makes huge announcement about key player

The Kentucky men's basketball team has lost several key players for the second consecutive offseason, but they are now officially getting one of them back.

Kentucky announced on Wednesday that junior guard Otega Oweh has withdrawn his name from the NBA Draft and will return to school for his senior season.

Oweh was Kentucky's leading scorer this past season with 16.2 points per game. He also finished with a team-high 1.6 steals per game. His strong campaign earned him a spot on the All-SEC Second Team.

Shortly after the conclusion of the NCAA Tournament, Oweh announced that he was entering his name in the 2025 NBA Draft while maintaining his eligibility. He has decided to return to Lexington, which should have a major impact on the Wildcats.

Kentucky is losing at least six other players in total who have no remaining eligibility. Jaxson Robinson, Koby Brea, Lamont Butler, Amari Williams and Andrew Carr — the other Wildcats who averaged more than 10 points per game this season — are among that group.

Mark Pope had to completely rebuild Kentucky's roster after several players followed John Calipari to Arkansas last year. In fact, Kentucky, this season, became the first ever NCAA men's basketball team to reach the Sweet 16 despite not having a player on the roster who scored a single point the year before.

With Oweh back in the mix, Kentucky now has a likely First-Team All-American and potential SEC Player of the Year.
