Giants teammates offer high praise for Russell Wilson amid OTAs

Per Jordan Raanan of ESPN, Russell Wilson took the majority of the first-team snaps during Wednesday's portion of the New York Giants' organized team activities ahead of fellow quarterbacks Jameis Winston, Jaxson Dart and Tommy DeVito.

Following the session, Wilson's teammates spoke highly of what he's brought to the organization since he signed a one-year contract to join the Giants in March.

"Russ has been there, done that. Been in the league a long time," Giants guard Greg Van Roten said. "Competed at a high level - 10 Pro Bowls, a Super Bowl (victory), been to two. Lot of experience. He's just been a really good voice to have in the offensive room as far as the little things. ...No stone goes unturned with him."

It's hardly a surprise that Wilson seems to be comfortably atop the depth chart in the closing days of May. Shortly after the Giants traded back into the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft to select Dart at pick No. 25, head coach Brian Daboll confirmed that Wilson would be the starter at this stage of the offseason program.

Daboll and Co. are clearly hoping that Wilson can turn the clock back to what he was during his best days with the Seattle Seahawks, if only for one season. Wilson featured for the Seahawks from 2012-21 and then experienced more lows than highs during a two-year stint with the Denver Broncos.

More recently, the 36-year-old didn't play for the Pittsburgh Steelers across the first six weeks of the 2024 campaign due to a lingering calf problem. While he won six of his first seven starts upon his return, he allegedly clashed with offensive coordinator Arthur Smith during what became a five-game losing streak that ran through the playoffs.

Following Wednesday's practice, linebacker Bobby Okereke noted that Wilson has "a certain aura" that the Giants seemingly lacked last season when DeVito, Daniel Jones, Drew Lock and Tim Boyle all took in-game snaps.

Some who cover the Giants and the NFL think it's only a matter of time before Daboll hands the keys of his offense over to Dart this fall. For now, it appears that Wilson's teammates are behind him as he looks to show he still has plenty left in the tank.
