Charlie Woods follows in dad's footsteps with first junior win

What a year it's been for legendary Hall of Famers and their sons. First, Bronny James gets drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers and gets to share an NBA court with his father, LeBron James. Now, Charlie Woods is making his dad, Tiger Woods, proud by scoring his first career win on the junior tour.

On Wednesday, Woods shot a 6-under 66 in the final round of the Team TaylorMade Invitational at Streamsong Resort in Bowling Green, Fla., to pick up his first AJGA win. The 16-year-old beat decorated junior players Luke Colton, Tyler Watts and Miles Russell, who has played in a few PGA Tour events and is the youngest player to ever make the cut at a Korn Ferry Tour event.

Woods opened up the tournament with a 2-under 70 in the first round. In the second round, he made nine birdies en route to a 7-under 65 that got him in contention. On Wednesday, he slammed the door shut with six birdies and a 6-under 66 to win the tournament. Woods made a ridiculous 25 birdies and one eagle during the 54-hole event.

This was an impressive victory for Woods, considering it was just his fifth career AJGA start. His best finish before this week was a T25 at the Junior Invitational at Sage Valley in March. Woods entered the week ranked No. 604 in the AJGA rankings, but now he's poised to make a huge jump up the list.

Woods just finished up his sophomore year at the Benjamin School, so he still has some time to improve and think about where he wants to play collegiate golf. After this performance, it's clear the rising star has enough game to play at the next level.
