Fever suffer concerning injury blow amid Caitlin Clark's absence

The Indiana Fever are in action on Friday night as they play in their second game without star point guard Caitlin Clark. The reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year was previously ruled out for at least two weeks after suffering a quad strain in Indiana's 90-88 loss against the defending champs, the New York Liberty, on May 24.

Taking her place in the starting five is veteran guard Sydney Colson, who joined the Fever as a free-agent signing in the offseason. Colson made her second straight start on Friday in Clark's stead, as Indiana hosted the Connecticut Sun in a home game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.

Unfortunately for Colson, the two-time WNBA champion guard was forced to exit the contest in the first quarter due to a leg injury. According to Fever beat reporter Chloe Peterson of Indy Star Sports, Colson "got tangled up" with Connecticut guard Jacy Sheldon near Indiana's bench. Colson went down, grabbing her left leg.

The Fever guard had to exit the game and head to the locker room to get herself checked by the medical staff. She was able to walk on her own without assistance, but the 35-year-old was reportedly "walking very slowly."

The Fever's next game will be on Wednesday when they host the Washington Mystics in another home matchup at Gainbridge Fieldhouse. Depending on the final diagnosis of Colson's injury, head coach Stephanie White might need to find another replacement in her starting five.

Offseason recruit Sophie Cunningham will likely get a significant boost in her minutes if Colson is forced to spend time on the sidelines with Clark.
