This past Saturday in the UFC’s return to the Apex for UFC Vegas 107, Erin Blanchfield was scheduled to take on Maycee Barber in the main event.
Just a day before fight night, the main event was sent into jeopardy after Barber failed to make the 126-pound limit after weighing in heavy. Fortunately, though, ‘The Future’ forfeited 20% of her purse and the fight was scheduled to continue.
The two fighters then traded insults with each other on stage during the ceremonial weigh-in face off as Blanchfield called Barber a clown for missing weight after Barber labeled Blanchfield the same beforehand.
After an impressive win over Rose Namajunas last November, Blanchfield was hopeful of scoring another big win to put herself back into title contention.
The 27-year-old Barber, on the other hand, hasn’t fought since last March and after accumulating a six-fight win streak, a win over ‘Cold-Blooded’ Blanchfield would have put her near the top of the flyweight heap.
Despite that, just minutes before Barber was scheduled to walk out for her main event fight against Blanchfield, the UFC broadcast team announced that the 27-year-old wasn’t medically cleared to fight and the fight was cancelled.
Blanchfield labeled Barber’s last-minute withdrawal as ‘super unprofessional’, however, she later speculated that it was a seizure that resulted in Barber’s withdrawal.
With Barber having suffered several health complications over the past year, Blanchfield predicted that she would withdraw from the fight just days before the disaster ensued.
“Yeah, a little bit of a worry (that Barber will withdraw),” Blanchfield told MMAFighting just days ago.
“Maycee is someone that has pulled out of fights pretty frequently. She has a history of that. There’s always a worry but that could happen with anyone at the same time,” she continued.

Having already taken 20% of Barber’s fight purse, Blanchfield would receive both her show and win money.
The 26-year-old admitted following the fight that she is not interested in the promotion re-booking the fight between her and Barber and will instead move on to a different matchup.
