Patriots OC Josh McDaniels discusses Stefon Diggs' arrival at OTAs

On Monday, New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs reported to voluntary OTAs after making headlines last week for a viral video on social media.

In the clip, Diggs appears to be partying on a yacht and gives three women pink powder. Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel said the team was aware of the video and wants all its players to "make great decisions on and off the field."

Diggs — who signed a three-year, $63.5M deal with New England in free agency — has been rehabbing from a right ACL tear he suffered in October 2024. Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels seems eager to start working with the 31-year-old wideout.

"It's a voluntary part of the year, we know that," McDaniels told the media. "As a coach, selfishly, you love it when they're all here because you feel you've got them all in the classroom, the field, and the rest of it. He's here today, and we're excited to have an opportunity to work with the guys that are out here and available to us."

While Diggs has spent little time with the team, McDaniels seems unconcerned about him learning the playbook.

"I know he's staying up on the information and the material," McDaniels said. "There are so many opportunities for us to teach all our guys going forward between the rest of practices here in the spring and then going into the summer and the many days we have before we actually kick the ball off in September. I'm not concerned about Stefon in that regard."

On a Friday episode of his show on WBZ-FM in Boston, Scott Zolak, a former Patriots quarterback, said the team could cut Diggs before the regular season. That seems less likely now that Diggs has arrived at OTAs.

Plus, he could become a No. 1 target for Patriots second-year quarterback Drake Maye. In four seasons with the Buffalo Bills, Diggs made four Pro Bowls. In eight games with the Houston Texans last season, he had 47 receptions for 496 yards and three touchdown catches.
