Raiders linked to Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey

A national NFL writer has linked Miami Dolphins cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Las Vegas Raiders. His addition would be a major upgrade at the position for the team, which has cap space of roughly $36M per Over The Cap, but significant hurdles remain.

In April, Dolphins GM Chris Grier said Miami intends to trade Ramsey. On Monday, CBS Sports' national NFL writer Cody Benjamin noted the Raiders, Falcons and Rams as potential landing spots for Ramsey.

"Ramsey has reportedly been anticipating an exit for a while, despite just signing a $72 million extension last September," Benjamin wrote. "He might soon get his wish of a clean slate, as Miami can save close to $10 million by trading the cornerback after June 1 as opposed to losing $8.5 million by dealing the former Los Angeles Rams star prior to June 1. All signs point to Ramsey playing elsewhere in 2025."

The addition of  Ramsey would immediately bolster the position for the Raiders, who lost CB Nate Hobbs to the Green Bay Packers in free agency.

At cornerback, Las Vegas has veterans Jakorian Bennett, Decamerion Richardson, Darnay Holmes and Eric Stokes. None of them strike fear in NFL offenses. In the 2025 NFL Draft, the Raiders drafted CB Darien Porter of Iowa State in the third round.

In September 2024, Ramsey signed a three-year, $72.3M extension with the Dolphins, including a roughly $24M guaranteed, per Spotrac.

Meanwhile, Vinny Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review Journal wrote that adding Ramsey would be "an interesting name," but he has concerns with his Ramsey's left knee. The nine-year veteran underwent knee surgery before the 2023 season and missed seven regular-season games. Ramsey started all 17 games last season.

"All those factors are why Ramsey, despite being an interesting name, hasn’t been traded yet. Time will tell if that changes," Bonsignore wrote.

The money situation isn't an issue for the Raiders if they were to pursue Ramsey. However, Raiders general manager John Spytek is big on developing homegrown players such as Porter. Perhaps that reason alone is why the Raiders won't pursue Ramsey.

But that would be a big mistake.

Ramsey would be a difference-maker for the Raiders and give the team a shutdown corner they lack. For his career, Ramsey has 24 interceptions and 108 passes defended.
