On Monday, hundreds of golfers competed in 36-hole tournaments across North America with hopes of punching their last-second tickets to the U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club. The Longest Day in Golf produced dozens of unlikely qualifiers, but some bigger names weren't so lucky.
At Kinsdale Golf and Fitness Club in Columbus, Ohio, Max Homa and Rickie Fowler lost on the second hole of a five-man playoff to blow their chances at an invite. Cameron Young, Erik Van Rooyen and Bud Cauley were among the PGA Tour pros who qualified in Columbus.
For Homa, this will mark the first major championship he's missed since 2019. Fowler won't be in the U.S. Open field for the third time in the last five years. Both players missed out on a spot by only one stroke over 38 holes of golf.
Bitter pill to swallow for Max Homa at the last.

Could have clinched his spot in the U.S. Open with a birdie. Instead it's a three-putt par and he's likely heading to a playoff in Columbus. pic.twitter.com/gVruBSRqSK
Homa and Fowler weren't the only well-known golfers to flame out at Final Qualifying. Jake Knapp, Matt Kuchar, Eric Cole and Adam Hadwin also fell short at the Columbus site.
At Lambton Golf & Country Club in Ontario, Canada, Keith Mitchell, Harry Higgs, Garrick Higgo, Camilo Villegas, Seamus Power and Luke Clanton all failed to crack the top seven. Emiliano Grillo, Thorbjorn Olesen, Matt Wallace and Niklas Norgaard made the cut ahead of them.
Veterans Zach Johnson, K.J. Choi, Jason Dufner and J.B. Holmes attempted to qualify at Piedmont Country Club in Atlanta, Georgia, but none of them played well enough to advance.
A whole pack of LIV golfers traveled to Woodmont Country Club in Rockville, Maryland, but Australian Marc Leishman was the only survivor of the bunch. Mito Pereira, Sebastian Munoz, Jason Kokrak and others all failed to qualify, as did YouTubers Wesley Bryan and George Bryan.
In the end, 47 players emerged from the Longest Day in Golf with an invite to the U.S. Open this month.
