Phil Mickelson’s social media post about Scottie Scheffler could not have been more wrong

Phil Mickelson made a bold prediction about Scottie Scheffler via social media earlier this year, and it could not have been more wrong.

Mickelson was responding to a post on X in March that called Joaquin Niemann a top-5 player in the world at the time. The veteran golfer said that Niemann was the No. 1 golfer. Trevor Immelman saw Mickelson’s post and decided to respond. Immelman labeled Mickelson’s opinion of Niemann a “hot take.”

Mickelson saw Immelman’s response and raised him a true “hot take.”

“Here’s a hot take,” Mickelson began his March 16 post on X. “Does Scottie win in 2025 before the Ryder Cup? I don’t think so.”

Freezing Cold Takes could have a field day with that one.

Scheffler has won three events over the last month alone. He won the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on May 4, the PGA Championship on May 18, and the Memorial on June 1. The Ryder Cup is scheduled to take place from Sept. 25-28. Scheffler still has another nearly four months to continue adding to his wins total.

Scheffler had seven wins on the PGA Tour in 2024 and has three already in 2025. Mickelson’s hot take has produced some cold results. At least Mickelson has acknowledged his error.
