Is Pacers' Pascal Siakam one of the NBA's best complementary stars?

Pascal Siakam has been a main contributor and one of the driving forces for the Indiana Pacers during their NBA Finals run.

After being named the Eastern Conference Finals MVP, Siakam kept his foot on the gas in the Pacers thrilling Game 1 victory over the Oklahoma City Thunder, finishing with 19 points, 10 rebounds and three assists.

He also had a key rebound and putback with under one minute to play in the fourth quarter to cut the Pacers' deficit to one point.

The 31-year-old forward from Cameroon has scored at least 17 points in 13 out of the team’s 17 playoff games and is averaging 20.9 points, six rebounds, 3.2 assists and one steal per game in that time frame.

Consistent performances and plays like the one from Game 1 by Siakam are just part of the reason why he has cemented himself as one of the best complementary stars in the NBA.

Siakam can be viewed as the Robin to Tyrese Haliburton’s Batman. Siakam may not always be thought of to be on the same level as other Robin-level stars around the league such as Jaylen Brown, Jimmy Butler, Damian Lillard, Jalen Williams or even Jamal Murray, but his level of play on the big stage and winning pedigree (making the playoffs six out of his nine years in the NBA) are major reasons why that conversation should change.

He's worked his way up through the G League, winning a championship and being named the G League Finals MVP in 2017.

He had his breakthrough in the 2018-2019 season as a member of the Toronto Raptors where he won the NBA Most Improved Player and was a key player for their championship run.

The 2019-20 season was arguably Siakam’s best as a pro, as he was an All-Star for the first time in his career and was named to the All-NBA second team alongside stars Nikola Jokic, Kawhi Leonard, Damian Lillard and Chris Paul. Siakam finished 10th in MVP voting that season.

His incredible rise to stardom has been well documented and he’s definitely earned praise, but he still has a lot more to give as he aims to help the Pacers win their ever first NBA championship, as well as add a second title to his resume.

If Siakam can do just that, it won't be unheard of to include his name among the current great complementary stars.
