Just like in the women’s draw, the men’s final at the French Open will feature World #1 vs World #2. Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz will battle it out for the French Open title on Sunday. As always, our writers here at LWOT share their thoughts on the match. Who do you think will win?
Ilemona:
Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner are set for a blockbuster final, and it feels like the start of a new era. Both have battled through tough matches, but Alcaraz’s clay-court creativity and experience in Grand Slam finals could tilt things in his favor. Sinner has been the most consistent player all season, and his improved movement on clay makes him a real threat. It’s a true toss-up, but if Alcaraz is physically fit, he might just outlast Sinner in a thriller.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 4
Jordan:
Sinner beating Novak Djokovic in straight sets does not reflect how tough the match was. The 24-time Grand Slam champion performed at a very high level and Sinner played excellently to beat him. The Italian will almost certainly need to be even better against the defending champion. Alcaraz has won their last four official meetings and was the pre-tournament favorite. But I am backing Sinner to pull off the win. Alcaraz has had lapses during his mstches, and Sinner will be fully locked in to take advantage of any slips from Alcaraz on Sunday.
Prediction: Sinner in 4
Ateet:
Defending champion Carlos Alcaraz had to dig deep in his semifinal match against Lorenzo Musetti as he lost the first set and was matched by the Italian for most of the second. However, he turned it on in the second set tiebreaker and never looked back. The Spaniard should be happy with the way he played after the second set, but he will need to be extra sharp in the final.
Jannik Sinner delivered another solid performance to knock out Novak Djokovic in straight sets. The Italian was mostly in control of the match and played the big points brilliantly. He hasn’t lost a set in the tournament, but it might change against his biggest rival. The world No.1 has dominated everyone in the last year except Alcaraz, and it could play a huge role in this final. This is the first time these two will meet in a Grand Slam final, and neither player has lost in a Slam final before. As good as Sinner is, Alcaraz knows how to trouble Sinner and has beaten him at this place before. He also has the advantage if the match goes long. I am going with the Spaniard.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 5
Tope:
The final that most people wanted is here and while Carlos Alcaraz has more experience on the dirts of Paris, he is up against a steely Sinner who can simply do no wrong. It is extremely difficult to predict anything other than a win for the Italian.
Prediction: Sinner in 4
Andreas:
One of these two stars will finally lose a Grand Slam final, and there might be more pressure on Alcaraz–in my opinion. The Spaniard has dropped four sets along his road to the final, he’s the defending champion, and he’s the favorite given his recent wins over Sinner. Meanwhile, the World No. 1 hasn’t lost a set yet. Sinner’s win over Novak Djokovic showed fans how the Italian has strategy and a game plan over some of the most tactical players out there.
Alcaraz will win if he can control his unforced errors. The Spaniard has had flashes of brilliance, but also patterns of uncertainty. His first serve could be better in big moments, but he’s been clinical on break points when he’s had to. Meanwhile, Sinner will win if he can get first serves in. The Italian only made 51% of his first serves, but he won nearly 80% of points once he got it in. If he can serve big, he’ll force Alcaraz to over hit. If Alcaraz is nervous at any point, that could be his downfall.
Again, Alcaraz should be the favorite in this match, especially after he cruised past Sinner to win the 2025 Italian Open just a few weeks ago. But there’s something about the Italian’s strong and consistent form that might just push him over the edge, and Sinner will break a tough run of losses against his rival.
Prediction: Sinner in 5
