Angel Reese is a bright spot for the Sky, even in blowout loss

Things went about as expected on Tuesday night as the New York Liberty, one of the best teams in the WNBA, hosted the Chicago Sky, one of the worst.

The defending WNBA champs looked the part, as they have all season,  with an 85-66 win over the Sky.

Sabrina Ionescu was fabulous, scoring 23 points in 27 minutes. She also had seven assists, four steals and two blocks as New York improved to 9-0.

The Liberty came in with an average margin of victory of 19 points, so a 19-point home win isn't a surprise. What was a pleasant surprise, at least for the Sky, was the offensive production of Angel Reese.

It's been a struggle for Reese so far this season. The No. 7 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft came in averaging just 9.1 points per game on 30.9% shooting, a 10% drop from last season.

However, Reese looked like a different player on Tuesday. She finished with 17 points and 11 rebounds. She also made 8-of-13 shots from the field, even connecting on a three-pointer.

Reese was credited with five turnovers, a few too many, but she added three assists and two steals. It was also the first time this season she shot better than 50% from the field, and only the second time her field-goal percentage has been above 40%.

For one night, at least, Reese looked like the top pick that she was. The LSU product was confident, aggressive and one of the best players on the floor.

We haven't seen that version of Reese much this season, which is why, even in a 19-point loss, it was a major positive for Chicago.
