The four most important stats that will decide U.S. Open

Oakmont Country Club is a long, demanding golf course with narrow fairways, thick rough, lightning-fast greens and nearly 200 deep bunkers sprawling across the property. Sounds easy enough, right?

It's going to take an impressive all-around performance to conquer this beast of a golf course, but these four stats could end up determining the winner of the 2025 U.S. Open

Notes: All custom stats courtesy of Betsperts Golf. LIV golfer stats are only from major championships. Only players with 24 qualified rounds are included.

Total driving

The U.S. Open is always a stern test of total driving, and that's especially true at Oakmont. The lengthy golf course will play longer than 7,400 yards as a par-70, so bunting it down the fairway won't be enough. Players will need to be long and accurate from off the tee to avoid the rough and set up doable approach shots to these undulating greens.

Top five over the last 24 rounds:

1. Tyrrell Hatton
2. Ludvig Aberg
3. Ryan Fox
4. Scottie Scheffler
5. Corey Conners

Strokes gained on approach (fast greens)

Another key to solving Oakmont will be a strong approach play, specifically hitting a ton of greens in regulation and landing the ball on the proper sections of the green. Missing greens will result in balls burying in the rough or plugging in bunkers, making it nearly impossible to get up and down.

2. Shane Lowry
3. Joaquin Niemann
4. Tom Hoge
5. Rory McIlroy

Three-putt avoidance from 25+ feet (fast greens)

Oakmont features massive 8,500-square-foot greens with severe slopes, so players will be faced with a ton of lengthy lag putts all week. It will be crucial to have perfect speed on those efforts to avoid dropping careless strokes via three-putts.

1. Stephan Jaeger
2. Jon Rahm
3. Cameron Smith
4. Xander Schauffele
5. Emiliano Grillo

Bogey avoidance rate (very long courses with long rough)

Par is the name of the game at the U.S. Open. Players can afford to miss birdie opportunities as long as they're limiting bogeys and double bogeys. The winning score will likely be close to even par this week, so the player who keeps the most squares off the card will have a great chance to win on Sunday.

1. Scottie Scheffler
2. Xander Schauffele
3. Rory McIlroy
4. Corey Conners
5. Bryson DeChambeau
