Brittney Griner speaks out after Dream defeat Caitlin Clark-less Fever

After spending 12 years with the Phoenix Mercury, center Brittney Griner chose to take her talents to the Atlanta Dream in the offseason. So far, that decision has proved to be a good one early in the 2025 WNBA season.

On Tuesday, Griner and the Dream jumped to 6-3 to start 2025, defeating the Caitlin Clark-less Indiana Fever 77-58 in front of their home crowd at Gateway Center.

Clark has missed the Fever's last five games due to a left quad strain she suffered in late May. Indiana has gone 2-3 in games without its star point guard.

In the win over the Fever, Griner wasn’t much of a factor. She picked up two fouls in the first two minutes and was immediately subbed out for Naz Hillmon, not receiving much action afterward. Griner finished with just 15 minutes of playing time, recording nine points on 4-of-7 shooting and four rebounds.

On Wednesday, one day following the Dream's sixth win of the season, Griner took to social media to post her reaction to defeating the WNBA's most viewed team.

"A DUB in front of the HOME CROWD last night !! ️," Griner wrote on Threads.

While Griner is having arguably the worst statistical season of her WNBA career, her height and defensive presence in the low-post will always be a factor. Through seven games played in 2025, she is averaging 12.6 points on 49.3% shooting, 6.0 rebounds and 1.1 blocks per game, all career lows.

Up next for the Dream, a battle with Angel Reese and the Chicago Sky on Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
