When Jets' Breece Hall knew he wouldn't be traded despite constant rumors

While speaking with reporters on Wednesday, New York Jets running back Breece Hall acknowledged that he knew he was the subject of constant trade rumors in the weeks and days leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft.

Per Jack Bell of the Jets' website, Hall revealed on Wednesday that a call from first-year head coach Aaron Glenn in late April showed the 24-year-old where he stood with the organization.

"AG called me and told me he wanted me to be here," Hall explained while speaking with reporters. "That meant a lot. ...AG called me and told me: 'Breece, you think I want to trade you?' And I was like, 'I don't know.' He's like, 'Breece, I don't want to trade you. I want you to be here. You're going to be here. You're our running back.' And so that felt really good. And then just to sit down with him and have a long conversation, and for him to fill me in. For me to get to know him and everything, it's been cool."

A 2022 second-round draft pick, Hall is in the final year of his rookie contract and hasn't quite lived up to the expectations many had for him since he went down with a torn ACL during his debut pro season. Neither Glenn nor new general manager Darren Mougey was with the Jets several years ago, so some understandably assumed the club could look to replace Hall by adding a rookie to a running back room that was already occupied by Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis.

It's unclear if the Jets would've made Boise State's Ashton Jeanty the seventh overall pick of the draft had he not been taken by the Las Vegas Raiders at choice No. 6. Gang Green ultimately grabbed offensive tackle Armand Membou at No. 7.

Hall, Allen, Davis and quarterback Justin Fields are all expected to have significant roles in New York's rushing attack this fall. On Wednesday, Hall indicated he wants to emerge as the club's undisputed RB1 by the time the preseason wraps up.

"I'm not obligated to anything," Hall added. "I'm around the new GM, new coaches, a lot of new faces. So for me, I got to prove that I am the guy. That's every day. I feel like my skill set, I'm a three-down back. We have a great running back room, and a lot of healthy competition. But my mentality is every day I'm going to prove that I am the best back on this roster, one of the best backs in the league."

Hall may have to be one of the league's top ball-carriers to receive a second contract from the Jets. Truth be told, other teams could pursue a deal for Hall before the in-season trade deadline arrives if the Jets look more like pretenders than playoff contenders in late October.
