Rangers reportedly preparing offer sheet for rising superstar

Per a new report from an NHL analyst, the New York Rangers feel strongly about JJ Peterka and could be preparing to extend an offer sheet to the Buffalo Sabres forward.

It's been a transitional period for the New York Rangers in the last several months, as multiple high-profile changes have been made.

The latest major change the club made was the trade of Chris Kreider, who was the longest-tenured member of the team, to the Anaheim Ducks. The Rangers had also recently fired coach Peter Laviolette and replaced him with former Penguins coach Mike Sullivan.

Kreider joins former Rangers captain Jacob Trouba in Anaheim, who was traded to the Ducks just months into the season.

Now that the Rangers have a considerable hole in their lineup, who will they fill it with? Don't be surprised to see them become the latest NHL club to extend an offer sheet, and it could be to Buffalo Sabres forward JJ Peterka.

NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman speculated that the Rangers could be preparing an offer sheet for Peterka, who is a pending RFA.

Peterka, who was taken 34th overall by the Sabres in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, had 68 points (27G, 41A). The Sabres missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the 14th straight year, the longest postseason drought in the NHL.

While offer sheets are rare in today's NHL, the St. Louis Blues successfully pulled off a pair of them last summer, extending offer sheets to Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway of the Edmonton Oilers; both players would become Blues after the Oilers chose not to match them.
