Shane van Gisbergen wins Viva Mexico 250 in Mexico City

Despite being under the weather, Shane van Gisbergen trounced the NASCAR Cup Series field in Sunday's Viva Mexico 250 at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, leading 60 of 100 laps en route to his first win of 2025 and the second of his Cup Series career.

Van Gisbergen took the lead on the restart following the race's final caution and pulled away to a final margin of victory of 16.567 seconds in the first Cup Series race in Mexico.

The victory vaults van Gisbergen, who was 33rd in the Cup Series standings going into Sunday's race, into the playoffs in his rookie season. It's also the second time van Gisbergen has won at the inaugural running of a new road course race, as he was the victor at the first Chicago Street race in 2023.

Christopher Bell, Chase Elliott, Alex Bowman and Michael McDowell rounded out the top five, with John Hunter Nemechek, Chase Briscoe, Cole Custer, William Byron and Chris Buescher completing the top 10.

Other notable finishers include Ty Gibbs in 11th, Stage 1 winner Ryan Preece in 15th, Ryan Truex in 23rd, Katherine Legge in 32nd and Kyle Larson in 36th.

The 17th race of the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series season will take place at the Pocono (Pa.) Raceway on June 22. The Great American Getaway 400 will go green shortly after 2 p.m. ET, with coverage on Prime Video, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Ryan Blaney is the defending winner.

William Byron remains the Cup Series points leader through 16 races, holding a 67-point advantage over Kyle Larson.
