Gage Wood is an absolute monster for the Arkansas Razorbacks.
Wood, on Monday, threw the third no-hitter in the history of the College World Series. He did so in a 3-0 win over Murray State in what was an elimination game at the event at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha.
Wood not only pitched a no-hitter, but he was so dominant he struck out 19 batters and nearly threw a perfect game. Wood hit Dom Decker on the foot with a breaking ball in the eighth inning to spoil the perfect game.
He also hit another Murray State batter in the elbow in the ninth inning, but the umpires reviewed the play and determined the batter had leaned into the pitch. They overturned it from a hit-by-pitch and made it an out.
Gage Wood allowed a hit-by-pitch in the 8th inning for the only baserunner.

He also hit a Murray State batter to start the 9th, but that was overturned (and counted as the 17th strikeout) after review, to the surprise of the ESPN crew. ⚾️️ #MCWS pic.twitter.com/2KvWwJSajR
The no-hitter was the first at the College World Series in 65 years. The most recent was thrown by Oklahoma State’s Jim Wixson against North Carolina in 1960. Before that, Jim Ehrler from Texas threw one in 1950 against Tufts.
Wood had a great comment during his postgame interview, saying “I shouldn’t have hit that guy.” That showed how much he focuses on being as good as possible.
Wood entered the game 3-1 with a 5.02 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 28.2 innings. He just made his stats for the season look a whole lot better.
