Joe Torre deserves the recognition he's getting at 2025 MLB All-Star Game

Joe Torre is a Baseball Hall of Famer, being inducted in 2014. It's worth noting that even though he's known most to the latest generation of fans for his managerial skills, he was also one heck of a pro himself.

Torre played MLB ball for 18 seasons, going to five straight All-Star Games from 1963-67 and then to four straight from 1970-73. In 1971, while playing for the St. Louis Cardinals, he won the National League MVP award after averaging .363 with 230 hits, 137 RBI and 352 total bases collected.

Torre is in the Hall of Fame as a manager, though, and he has the four World Series rings he brought to the New York Yankees to thank for that.

It's fitting then that Torre is slated to be an honorary manager alongside current Yankees skipper Aaron Boone and Stephen Vogt of the Cleveland Guardians at the 2025 MLB All-Star Game.

Torre, 85 on July 18, was a two-time AL Manager of the Year and he has more than just his Yankees run on his resume. He was also the skipper for the New York Mets (1977-81), Atlanta Braves (1982-84), Cardinals (1982-84) and Los Angeles Dodgers (2008-10).

Without a doubt, though, it was Torre's run with the Yankees that was the highlight of his managerial career. Born in Brooklyn, he managed the Yankees from 1996-2007. He won the World Series in his first season in 1996 and then led the Yankees to a three-peat in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

When that legendary era of New York baseball is brought up, names like Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera come to mind, but was Torre who was pulling the strings and even here in 2025, he's very much deserving of this upcoming honor and recognition by MLB.
