Indiana Fever veteran Sophie Cunningham proved to the world on Tuesday that she has Caitlin Clark’s back.
Clark feuded with Connecticut Sun guard Jacy Sheldon throughout their clash at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. In the first quarter, Clark and Sheldon had a dust-up that the referees had to break up.
The on-court beef continued in the second half when Sheldon caught Clark in the eye, which led to Sun star Marina Mabrey shoving Clark to the ground.
Cunningham got in on the action before the final buzzer sounded. Cunningham was the last line of defense as Sheldon had a fast-break opportunity with under a minute left in the contest. Cunningham dragged Sheldon to the ground before the latter could even get a clear shot up. The two grabbed at each other once Sheldon got back on her feet.

Cunningham, Sheldon, and Connecticut guard Lindsay Allen were all ejected from the contest. After a hotly contested first half, the Fever ran away with an 88-71 victory.
Clark and Cunningham have developed a close relationship off the court since the latter was traded to the Fever earlier this year. That strong bond was evident on the court during Tuesday’s game.
Cunningham scored five points and grabbed seven rebounds off the Fever bench. Sheldon tallied two points and three assists in a loss.
