The New York Jets have signed a kicker who has one of the greatest nicknames in sports history.
Former Missouri kicker Harrison Mevis signed with the Jets on Tuesday, according to multiple reports. Mevis is coming off an outstanding season with the UFL’s Birmingham Stallions, and many people were familiar with him prior to that because of the success he had in college.
Mevis also has a legendary nickname — the "Thiccer Kicker."

Mevis, who is known as much for his hefty build as his strong leg, signed with the Carolina Panthers as an undrafted free agent last year. He was waived prior to the start of the 2024 season and ended up with the Stallions.
The 242-pound Mevis made 20-of-21 kicks in the UFL last season, with his only miss coming from 63 yards.
Mevis was Missouri's kicker for four seasons from 2020-23. He converted 89-of-106 kicks in his collegiate career, including the longest made field goal in SEC history. Mevis' 61-yard field goal in 2023 lifted the Tigers to an upset victory over Kansas State as time expired.

Mevis said that the "Thiccer Kicker" nickname was given to him by former Mizzou punter Grant McKinniss. Mevis filed for trademarks for that phrase and "Money Mevis" in 2022.
The Jets have two other kickers currently on their roster in former sixth-round pick Anders Carlson and undrafted rookie Caden Davis. Mevis is far from a lock to be named New York's top kicker this season, but fans will undoubtedly be rooting for him.
