Magic Johnson has given his stamp of approval to the announcement of the upcoming sale of the Los Angeles Lakers.

In a pair of posts on X Wednesday, Johnson was thrilled with the announcement that Los Angeles Dodgers primary owner Mark Walter will take over a majority stake of the Lakers for a record $10 billion. Johnson, who is part of Walter’s Dodgers ownership group, said Walter is very similar to Lakers owner Jeanie Buss, and that fans should be very excited about the future.

“Laker fans should be (ecstatic),” Johnson wrote. “A few things I can tell you about Mark — he is driven by winning, excellence, and doing everything the right way. AND he will put in the resources needed to win! I can understand why Jeanie sold the team to Mark Walter because they are just alike — they are competitive people, have big hearts, love to give back, and both prefer to be behind the scenes.

“This makes all the sense in the world. I am so so SO happy and excited for Lakers fans all over the world!!”

Walter purchased the Dodgers in 2012 with Johnson as part of his investment group. Johnson knows him well and can certainly point to plenty of success on the field. The Dodgers have been willing to spend a lot of money under Walter’s ownership, and it has paid off to the tune of two World Series titles.

Johnson remains an ardent Lakers fan, but he has been critical of the team’s performances in recent playoffs. Obviously, he has a great deal of faith that Walter will keep the team on track and lift them to new heights.
