Jordan Spieth did something on Thursday that he has never done in his PGA Tour career, and in this instance that is not positive news.
Spieth withdrew during the first round of The Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, due to a neck injury. That marked the first time in 297 career PGA Tour starts that Spieth has withdrawn from an event.

Spieth made it through 12 holes before he decided he could no longer compete. He made five bogeys during the incomplete round and was 5-over par at the time he withdrew.
It became obvious that Spieth was dealing with an injury after he hit his drive on the 12th tee, as he let out a loud grunt and seemed extremely frustrated.

Spieth has played decent golf this season. He finished tied for 23rd at the U.S. Open last week and has four top-10 finishes on the year, including when he came in seventh at The Memorial Tournament last month.
Spieth has three major wins in his career, with his last coming at The Open Championship in 2017. He has been trying to get back to championship form for quite some time, but the neck injury could be a setback.
