Watch: Curacao's last-minute heroics clinch crucial Gold Cup draw vs. Canada

Despite poor attendance, the so-called "Summer of Soccer" in the United States is still delivering dramatic moments.

The Canadian National Team looked well on its way to securing a spot in the CONCACAF Gold Cup knock-out stage, up 1-0 over groupmate Curacao past the 90th minute.

But Curacaoan forward Jeremy Antonisse had other ideas. He stormed past the Canadian defense in the 94th minute after receiving a long ball pass on the left wing and buried the equalizer past goaltender Dayne St. Clair.

Antonisse's late heroics saved his team from near-certain elimination, earning a second draw in as many matches this tournament to keep "La Familia Azul" in second place in Group B.

Curacao actually put the ball in the back of the net three times against the mighty Canadians, but the first two scores were called back for offside.

The tiny Caribbean nation with a population of just under 148,000 people has become something of a lovable underdog at the 2025 Gold Cup.

According to the Fox Sports broadcast, the roster is actually made up of more Dutch internationals with dual citizenship than true-born Curacaoans. The island is a former colony of the Netherlands, gaining its independence in 2010 but remaining as part of the kingdom just as Canada is part of the British Commonwealth.

That kind of under-the-radar and leftover European talent seems to be lending to their advantage.

With anything but a loss on Tuesday against Honduras should see Curacao through to the knockout rounds, which would be a significant achievement in its own right.
