For the second game in a row, the Indiana Fever squandered a double-digit lead and lost a game in which Caitlin Clark was ice cold.
On Thursday, Golden State Valkyries rallied from 13 points down to knock off the Fever. Sunday in Las Vegas was a similar story as the Aces, led by 18 second-half points from A'ja Wilson, rallied from 10 down to beat Indiana 89-81.
It was the most notable win of the season for Las Vegas, at least up to this point, and improved its record to 6-7, ending a three-game losing streak.
Wilson, the reigning MVP of the WNBA, has been stellar this season, ranking in the top five in the league in points, rebounds, blocks, and steals.
However, Wilson's scoring average is down six points (26.9 to 20.8). Her rebounds and effective field goal percentage have dropped, too.
After an offseason of change, the Aces have also struggled. But facing a 10-point deficit, Wilson brought her best stuff, making 8-of-11 shots in the second on her way to 18 points (24 total). She also came up with a key block with under a minute left, when it was still a two-possession game.
One win is just one win. Yet, it feels like it could be the spark the Aces, who also got 19 points from Jackie Young and 18 from Chelsea Gray.
Caitlin Clark's superpower has been off
Over the two games, Clark has been human from the three-point line. In the loss on Thursday, she was 0-for-7 from beyond the arc.
On Sunday, Clark was 1-of-10. She made 7-of-20 shots overall, making it two straight games shooting under 40%.
Slumps happen. But nobody could have predicted that Clark would shoot 5.8 percent from three-point range over two games. That's just hard to imagine, even though she still had 19 points and 10 assists, although she was credited with eight turnovers.
The Fever also missed a golden opportunity to move up in the playoff race. Instead of sitting ahead of Golden State and Las Vegas, Indiana is behind both (alone in eighth place at 6-7).
Indiana is six games out of first place and three games back from the top four. Clark missed five games, which helps explain the record; however, the Fever are just 2-2 since her return.
