The BYU Cougars have picked up a massive commitment on the 2026 recruiting trail.
On its own merits, the commitment of 5-star quarterback Ryder Lyons would have been a huge deal. From Folsom, California, Lyons is ranked as the No. 4 quarterback in the 2026 class and the No. 13 recruit overall, according to 247Sports
Lyons was also strongly considering Oregon as well as USC, Ohio State, Michigan and Ole Miss. Considering the competition, it's tough to call this anything but a banner moment for head coach Kalani Sitake and his staff.

Perhaps BYU always had this one in the bag. It's worth noting that Lyons has a ton of family connections to the Cougars, and the mission of the school aligns with his faith tradition. He also boasted about his relationship with Sitake and the BYU staff.
"My family went there, my sisters went there, obviously a big part of my faith,” Lyons has said about BYU in the past, according to Steve Wiltfong of On3. “Coach (Aaron) Roderick [BYU's offensive coordinator], coach (Kalani) Sitake, amazing people to talk to, great relationships with them.”
Playing for Folsom High School, Lyons threw for 3,011 yards and 46 touchdowns as a junior in 2024. He also rushed for 585 yards and 14 touchdowns on the ground.
For those not keeping track, that's 60 total touchdowns. That's impressive from a quarterback, no matter the level of competition.
Lyons is the 14th commitment to BYU's 2026 class, and he's clearly the crown jewel.
