The Chicago White Sox made a classy gesture toward Arizona Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte after a fan taunted him about his late mother in Tuesday's game at Rate Field in Chicago.
Chicago displayed a message for the second baseman on its scoreboard during his first at-bat in the top of the first inning of Wednesday's game. White Sox fans also gave him a round of applause, via Jeff Meller of ESPN Chicago.

It's unclear what the fan said about Marte's mother — who died in a car accident in the Dominican Republic in 2017 — but Major League Baseball made it clear his behavior was unacceptable.
According to ESPN's Jesse Rogers, MLB banned the 22-year-old fan indefinitely from all 30 of its ballparks. The White Sox, meanwhile, ejected him from Tuesday's game.
"We commend the White Sox in taking immediate action in removing the fan," MLB said in a statement (h/t Rogers).
After the Diamondbacks' 4-1 victory on Tuesday, Arizona manager Torey Lovullo criticized the fan for his chants at Marte.
"I could see [Marte] was sobbing. It hurt," Lovullo said, via Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic. "[I told him], 'I love you and I'm with you and we're all together and you're not alone. No matter what happens, no matter what was said or what you heard, that guy is an idiot. It shouldn't have an impact on you.'"
Before Chicago's 7-3 win on Wednesday, White Sox manager Will Venable supported Marte.
"Really unfortunate incident," Venable said, per MLB.com's Casey Drottar. "No player should ever have to be subjected to that kind of stuff from fans. I sent my apologies over to them last night, and I know a number of us have. [We] apologize again for what is not representative of how our fans behave, and just something that no players should be subjected to."
