The New York Knicks are set to interview another experienced candidate for their head coach vacancy.

James Borrego will interview with the Knicks either on Saturday or Sunday, according to NBA reporter Jake Fischer.

Borrego is currently in his second stint as an assistant coach with the New Orleans Pelicans. He was the head coach of the Charlotte Hornets for four seasons from 2018-2022 and also had a brief stint as interim head coach of the Orlando Magic in 2015.

Borrego went 138-163 in Charlotte, and the team did not make the playoffs. The 47-year-old still has a respectable resume, however, as he also served as an assistant under Gregg Popovich with the San Antonio Spurs for several years.

A recent report claimed that there are two favorites to become the next head coach of the Knicks. New York has been denied permission to interview several coaches who are under contract with other teams.

Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd appears to be the top target for New York, but the Knicks have not been given permission to speak with him. There has been a lot of talk that Kidd wants the job, so the door might not be closed on that possibility.
