Max Muncy moves up the all-time Dodgers leaderboard

It’s been quite a month for Max Muncy. Not only did he match a nearly century-old record set by a Hall of Famer this past week, but he has now moved up another spot on the Dodgers’ all-time leaderboards. With his 13th home run of the year, Muncy tied Matt Kemp for the seventh-most home runs in franchise history.

Both Muncy and Kemp have tallied 203 home runs in their respective Dodgers tenures. With the way Muncy is hitting, we can likely expect him to take sole control of seventh place sometime soon, moving Kemp down to eighth.

In the month of June, Muncy is hitting .329/.461/.671 with seven home runs. He already passed Carl Furillo (192) this year in addition to tying Kemp. If he can keep it up for the rest of the year, Muncy could move up the leaderboard two more spots, passing two Dodgers legends.

Steve Garvey stands in sixth place with 211, a total that Muncy should easily surpass this season. At 228, Ron Cey will be a little more difficult to catch, but it is doable. In fourth place and beyond Muncy’s reach this year is Hall of Famer Roy Campanella, who notched 242 home runs during his time with the Dodgers.

Regardless of where he is on the leaderboard, Muncy has also earned himself a special spot in Dodgers lore. What goes unnoticed in his home run total is his at-bats per home run (AB/HR) as a Dodger. AB/HR measures the frequency of hitting home runs where a lower figure is better. Muncy’s 14.82 AB/HR ranks him second among all Dodgers, just behind Gary Sheffield at 14.46. This places him ahead of legends such as Mike Piazza, Gil Hodges, Adrian Beltre, Frank Howard and Duke Snider, who owns the all-time Dodgers’ home run record with 389.
