Detroit Pistons guard Malik Beasley is under investigation over allegations related to gambling on NBA games.

Beasley is being investigated by the U.S. District Attorney’s Office, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Sunday. The allegations against the 28-year-old involve betting on NBA games and prop bets.

Beasley’s attorney, Steve Haney, issued a statement on Sunday urging people to allow the investigation to play out.

“An investigation is not a charge,” Haney said. “Malik is afforded the same right of the presumption of innocence as anyone else under the U.S. constitution. As of now he has not been charged with anything.”

No further details of the allegations were provided.

Beasley signed with the Pistons last summer. He played in all 82 games for the team this season and averaged 16.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 1.7 assists.

Charania reports that Beasley and the Pistons were closing in on a new 3-year, $42 million contract, but those talks have been put on hold now because of the gambling probe.

Beasley is not the only active NBA player who is being investigated for allegations related to gambling. Federal investigators have also been looking into whether Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier manipulated his performance in a game during the 2022-23 season as part of a sports betting scheme.

The investigation surrounding Rozier is linked to the activity that resulted in former Toronto Raptors player Jontay Porter receiving a lifetime ban from the NBA.
