Sergio Garcia has reason to celebrate after mediocre finish at LIV Golf Dallas

Sergio Garcia shot +3 over three rounds at LIV Golf Dallas to finish in a disappointing tie for 25th, but he was popping as much champagne as champion Patrick Reed after the final round.

Because Garcia remained inside the top five in the LIV Golf standings through nine events, he punched his ticket to the fourth major of the year via the LIV Golf Open Championship exemption. The Spaniard will travel to Northern Ireland to play in the 2025 Open Championship at Royal Portrush on July 17.

"It's going to be my second time playing at Royal Portrush, and it's obviously nice," Garcia said after the final round of LIV Golf Dallas, per LIV Golf. "It's one of the goals that you have at the beginning of the year, to try to play as many majors as you can with the limitations that we have.

"I didn't help myself very much the last three months, but I'm glad that I got enough work done in the first third of the year, I guess, in the first part of the season. I'm excited about it, and hopefully I'll play well."

Garcia looked to be on his way to a career renaissance early in the season. The Fireballs GC captain won LIV Golf Hong Kong in March and notched three more top-six finishes in his first six worldwide starts of 2025, but his game has gone downhill since then.

After missing the cut at The Masters, Garcia finished 50th in Mexico City, T42 in Korea, T67 at the PGA Championship, T38 in Virginia and T25 in Dallas. Still, the points from his early season run were enough to earn him an exemption to the 2025 Open Championship.

If Garcia hadn't qualified through the LIV Golf Open Championship exemption, he would've had to play his way in through final qualifying. He failed to qualify for the U.S. Open similarly, marking the first time he missed the U.S. Open since 1999.

Thankfully for Garcia, he won't face a similar fate ahead of the Open Championship.
