Patrick Reed won his first individual title in the LIV Golf League after a tense three-man playoff at Maridoe Golf Club. The American revealed that his daughter’s encouragement was one of the reasons for his success, especially after she gave him a putter with her name engraved on it.

Daugher’s Engraved Putter Inspiration Behind Reed’s Victory

Reed began the final round with a three-shot lead but fell behind late in the day at Maridoe Golf Club. However, Jinichiro Kozuma’s bogey on the 18th hole allowed him to mount a comeback as he made par on his final hole at No. 1 for a round of 68. That earned him a playoff with Louis Oosthuizen and Paul Casey.

Oosthuizen drove into the water on the first extra hole, and Casey took four shots to reach the green on the par-4 18th. Reed then hit a birdie on Maridoe’s 546-yard par-4 18th to defeat both players in the three-way playoff and secure his first individual LIV Golf title.

Reed explained to reporters that his daughter was the inspiration behind his remarkable victory. His daughter, Windsor, had given him the putter, which was engraved with her name, and Reed used it during the playoff. When Reed saw the engraving, he felt an extra push to finish strong.

“Come on, honey. We’ve got to make one today,” Reed said after seeing the engraving with his daughter’s age.

That moment of motivation proved to be exactly what Reed needed. He hit an important birdie putt to win the playoff and lift his first individual trophy on the LIV Golf circuit. It ended a long wait for Reed, who had come close several times but had not been able to get over the line until now.

Reed Secures LIV Golf Breakthrough On Home Soil

Apart from ending his LIV Golf drought, the victory in Dallas also held special significance for Reed. Born and raised in Texas, he had always wanted to win a professional event on home soil. He finally achieved that dream in front of friends, family, and fans who had supported him throughout his career. The win also helped Reed climb to fourth place in the LIV season standings. His consistent performances, including four top-10 finishes this year, demonstrate that he is finding his form at the right time.

Reed’s success has also sparked fresh talk about his future. Some believe that this form could earn him a place on the U.S. Ryder Cup team. However, the 34-year-old insists he remains focused on the present and doesn’t think too much about the future. For now, Reed plans to enjoy the victory with his loved ones. But with momentum on his side, many expect him to continue pushing for more success on the LIV Golf Tour.
