Georgia lands elite 2027 CB over Miami, Oregon and others

The Georgia Bulldogs and head coach Kirby Smart are all-in on building an elite recruiting class for 2026. The recruiting trail never sleeps, though, which means that, in all reality, the Bulldogs have to get moving on 2027 as well.

They've already made plenty of offers for 2027 and beyond, and one of those offers resulted in a big-time commitment on Monday. It's being reported that Donte Wright, a four-star cornerback from Long Beach, California, has committed to the Bulldogs.

He's the second commitment for Smart's 2027 class.

There's still a ton of time for Wright's commitment to change, and it's worth noting that in today's recruiting environment, that's a big-time possibility.

He does have a strong tie to the Georgia program in defensive backs coach Donte Williams, though. Wright's father, Donte Wright Sr., was coached by Williams years ago at West Coast Junior College.

That relationship paid off for UGA.

That's not to say Smart didn't play a role in landing Wright, because he did.

"He's one of the best coaches in this game for real," Wright told Benjamin Wolk of 247Sports regarding Smart. "So, talking to him, it was just, you know, it stood out to me. Georgia just felt like the place that I wanted to be."

Wright checks in at 6-foot-1 and 170 pounds heading into his junior season of high school ball. As a sophomore, he notched 23 tackles, one interception and five pass breakups.

According to the 247Sports Composite, he's the No. 10 cornerback in the 2027 class.

Miami, Michigan, Oregon, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas A&M and USC were also in the running for his commitment.
