Wyc Grousbeck confirms former Celtics champion was banned from 2024 celebrations

When the Boston Celtics won the 2024 NBA championship, there was a rumor that Kendrick Perkins was banned from celebrating with the franchise. Perkins, a former Celtics champion in his own right, has become one of the more outspoken members of the NBA media in recent years.

As such, Perkins has likely ruffled some feathers within the Celtics locker room. However, the former 2008 champion has refuted those rumors since they surfaced.

"Sounds like you’re WRONG. This is completely False," Perkins posted on X on Nov. 3, 2024. "I never had plans on attending Banner night and I’ve never reached out to anyone in the Celtics organization about attending banner night. Happy Sunday and Carry the hell on."

However, it appears that the truth has finally come out. During a recent episode of the "Club 520" podcast, which is hosted by former Celtics guard Jeff Teague, Wyc Grousbeck confirmed that Perkins wasn't welcome around the Celtics' championship celebrations.

"And I love Perk," Grousbeck said. "To this day, he wasn't invited to our parade last year, that is true. Because he'd been giving people a lot of s---. You know, and so I had family members of players saying, if that guy's in the parade, we're not in the parade."

Grousbeck has no reason to lie. His family has recently sold the franchise — pending clearance from the NBA. Therefore, it's clear that Perkins wasn't welcome around the current roster. That ban is likely to extend to any future championships where Jayson Tatum and/or Jaylen Brown are part of that rotation.

Unfortunately for Perkins, the cold shoulder he's receiving is the result of the modern-day media approach of debate shows that discredit rather than build up. As such, it may be years before he's welcome back inside a Celtics locker room. For a player who was a core part of the 2008 championship run, that's a sad turn of events.
