Blue Jays extend win streak, AL East lead in wild walk-off win

It's the Toronto Blue Jays' league right now, and everybody else just happens to be playing in it. The hottest team in baseball kept it rolling on Friday night with a 4-3 win against the Los Angeles Angels, not only extending their winning streak to six consecutive games, but also their American League East lead to two games over the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays.

Friday's win was especially wild given the way it ended.

Following a leadoff walk by Nathan Lukes in the bottom of the 10th inning to put runners on first and second, third baseman Ernie Clement was called on to drop a sacrifice bunt to move the winning run to third base.

It ended up working out better than anybody could have possibly anticipated.

Pitcher Sam Bachman fielded the bunt and then attempted to fire an off-balance throw toward first base. He missed badly, allowing the winning run to walk across the plate.

It continues what has been a stunning turnaround in the Blue Jays' season as they have not only climbed to the top of the division, but now have a multiple-game lead.

It's also the first time they have won 50 of their first 88 games of a season since 1992, when they won the first of their two World Series titles.

Back on May 25, the Blue Jays were on the losing end of a 13-0 decision to the Rays to drop to 25-27 on the season.

Since then, they have gone 25-11 and are starting to look like a legitimate playoff contender in the American League. Things can change very quickly in professional sports.
