Shane van Gisbergen wins pole for NASCAR Cup Series race in Chicago

After pacing Xfinity Series practice and winning the pole for Saturday's Xfinity Series race at the Chicago Street Course, Shane van Gisbergen kept the good times rolling by winning the pole for Sunday's Grant Park 165.

Van Gisbergen was the only driver to break into the 89-second bracket with a lap of 89.656 seconds.

It's the first time a driver has swept the pole position for Xfinity and Cup Series races on the same weekend since van Gisbergen did so at the Charlotte Roval in October 2024.

"That was epic," van Gisbergen told truTV. "I've got some great cars today. Looking forward to the race tomorrow."

Michael McDowell, Carson Hocevar, Tyler Reddick and Chase Briscoe rounded out the top five, with Kyle Busch, Ryan Preece, Chris Buescher, Ty Gibbs and Austin Dillon completing the top 10.

Other notable qualifying efforts include defending Chicago winner Alex Bowman in 11th, defending Cup Series champion Joey Logano in 12th, Kyle Larson in 14th, Will Brown in 19th and Josh Bilicki in 31st.

Katherine Legge bumped Corey Heim from the field late in qualifying, sending Heim home.

After pacing Cup Series practice, Bubba Wallace had several issues in qualifying and was slowest of the 38 cars to take time.

William Byron, Denny Hamlin and Chase Elliott did not make a qualifying attempt after issues in practice.

The Grant Park 165 will go green shortly after 2 p.m. ET on Sunday, with coverage on TNT, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. Pre-race coverage will begin at 1 p.m. ET on TNT and MRN.
