Kevin Love's hilarious reaction shows business side of the NBA

Kevin Love is heading to the Utah Jazz. The veteran forward was part of the three-team trade that saw Norman Powell moved to the Miami Heat on Monday, July 7. John Collins was sent to the LA Clippers in that same deal, with Kevin Love and Kyle Anderson going to the Utah Jazz to complete the trade.

Upon finding out that he's heading to Salt Lake City, Love posted a humorous update on X.

"Never thought I’d be a math problem," Love wrote. "Welcome to the NBA."

We often hear that the NBA is a business. However, it's the players who must live that reality. One moment, you and your family are settled in a city, under contract with a team for a year or more. And the next, you're being told to pack your bags and move halfway across the country to start a new life.

For some, that reality is ever-present. For others, it's something they witness but rarely live themselves. However, it must be worse when you know that you're life has been turned upside down to check a box within the league's trade rules.

Love isn't being added to the Jazz's roster because they covet his skill set. Nor is it due to his veteran leadership. He's being sent to Utah because his salary tied the trade together. The math works because of his deal. And with that, his life takes an unexpected turn.

Of course, NBA players are handsomely compensated for the lack of security. Love will earn $4.1 million next season and is unlikely to see much, if any, playing time.

Still, rather than airing his frustration and/or disappointment, Love took the time to share an anecdotal thought regarding his current situation. Nevertheless, that same post also shows how quickly life if in the NBA can change.

What's worse is that a buyout could quickly follow for Love, and then he will have a tough choice to make: Move cities again, or sail off into the sunset of retirement. Either way, we will likely get another post on X to let us know.
