NASCAR legend rips journalist over Chicago Street Race criticism

Kevin Harvick's opinion on NASCAR's Chicago Street Race is set in stone, and the 2014 Cup Series champion made sure to let everyone know it.

On Tuesday's episode of "Kevin Harvick's Happy Hour," Harvick applauded the event while calling out those who didn't give it a chance.

"The thing I love about Chicago, all three years it feels like they've been so engaged in what's going on," Harvick said. "You've got some of these slapsticks like this guy from the Sun-Times, this Steve Greenberg guy that wrote the cr-ppy story this morning, but for the most part, people actually want to pay attention and be a part of the event and do the things aren't just looking for a headline because they write bad stories."

Greenberg wrote a story on Sunday evening for the Chicago Sun-Times criticizing NASCAR and the street race, saying NASCAR has a way of "... taking up the entire best part of downtown, forcing us to take weird, annoying alternate routes just to avoid you."

"A guy like this that doesn't know anything about NASCAR doesn't want to come out and find out about the sport," Harvick said. "He wants to just show up and talk bad.

"One of the best events NASCAR has ever decided to do," Harvick said of the Chicago Street Race. "They stepped out on a limb. We went street racing, and it's entertaining to watch. I think it's one of the greatest events (NASCAR) has created lately. I can't wait to see where it goes next."

The future of street racing in NASCAR is potentially in San Diego, a city that is reportedly nearing a deal with NASCAR. However, a date change away from Fourth of July weekend could be what the city of Chicago needs in order to welcome NASCAR back four a fourth consecutive street race.
