Wolverhampton Wanderers are looking to make moves in the transfer window after a slow start. The Express & Star reports that the club are targeting Colombian international Jhon Arias in a bid to strengthen their attacking options. With the departure of Matheus Cunha, Arias could be the dynamic replacement Wolves need heading into a new campaign.
Arias is currently playing for Fluminense in Brazil and is a former teammate of Wolves midfielder André. He has emerged as a key summer target for Wolves. The 27-year-old can play as either a winger or an attacking midfielder and has impressed both domestically and internationally, earning plaudits for his creativity, agility, and ability to break lines with his pace. The Colombian international brings versatility, capable of operating across the front line, but is most dangerous when cutting in from the wide areas, making him potentially Wolves’ replacement for Matheus Cunha if the club can secure the deal.
Legendary Brazilian footballer Kakà described Arias as “outstanding”, also noting:“ He’s an extremely dangerous player who can decide a match at any moment. He has stood out in every competition he’s played in, made history with Fluminense with their Libertadores win, and now he’s looking for a major victory at the Club World Cup.”
With Cunha now at Manchester United, Wolves are missing that dynamic forward player. While not a like-for-like replacement, he offers a similar ability to stretch defences, carry the ball forward, and create chances from wide or central areas. At the Club World Cup, Arias has created more chances than any other player in the competition with 18.
In a 3-4-2-1 formation, Arias could feature as one of the two attacking midfielders behind Jørgen Strand Larsen, offering movement, creativity and flair. His signing wouldn’t just fill the gap left by Cunha’s departure but could redefine how the team attacks altogether.
Arias may not be a household name in England just yet, but if this move materialises, that could change very quickly.
