Angel Reese's historic season continues in upset win over Lynx

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese remained in the clouds on Saturday afternoon with another dominant performance in an 87-81 upset win over the Minnesota Lynx.

The second-year pro scored 19 points on 8-of-14 shooting and added 11 rebounds, four assists and two steals as the Sky notched their first win in 2025 against an opponent with a winning record.

Reese has had at least 15 points and 10 rebounds in seven consecutive games, which the ESPN on ABC broadcast noted is tied for the franchise record.

The recently named "NBA 2K26" WNBA edition cover star got off to a hot start, scoring 15 points and adding six rebounds in the first half as Chicago jumped out to a 57-44 lead through 20 minutes.

Following her latest outstanding performance, Reese has a stunning 40 career double-doubles in 54 games, making her the fastest to 40 double-doubles in league history.

Per Across The Timeline, Reese's 255 rebounds this season are also the most by a player in their first 20 games in WNBA history, eight more than the league's all-time leading rebounder, Tina Charles, had through 20 games at the start of the 2010 season.

Through her first 20 games, Reese is averaging 13.6 points, 12.8 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game. After a poor start to the year shooting, she's made 49 percent of her field goal attempts since June 10 (13 games).

The Sky (7-13) have an uphill battle during the second half of the season to get into the playoff picture, but if any team can rebound from a rough start, one with Reese should have a decent chance.

Chicago began the season 3-10 but has won four of its last seven. The Sky have a difficult upcoming five-game stretch, beginning with another home game against the Lynx (18-4) on Monday.

They also play in Minnesota on their first game back from the All-Star break on July 22, the Atlanta Dream (12-8), Seattle Storm (13-8) and Indiana Fever (10-10) during the sequence.

That would be a rough stretch for any team, but with Reese playing as well as she has, the Sky can weather it.
