Following his win in Sunday's NASCAR Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway, Shane van Gisbergen kept adding his name to NASCAR's record books.
Van Gisbergen, who is competing with 23XI Racing driver Riley Herbst for the Cup Series Rookie of the Year award, has tied the record for the most wins in a rookie season in NASCAR Cup Series history with three.
Both Tony Stewart (1999) and Jimmie Johnson (2002) also won three races in their rookie seasons. Stewart went on to finish the year fourth in the standings, while Johnson finished his rookie year in fifth.
Van Gisbergen is 26th in the regular season standings, 20 races into the season, but with a solid bank of playoff points, he has an opportunity to make a deep playoff run if the cookie crumbles the right way.
He also has an excellent shot at breaking the record for the most wins in a rookie season, as two road courses — Watkins Glen and the Charlotte Roval — remain on the schedule.
Van Gisbergen also tied a record held by Jeff Gordon, the winningest road course racer in Cup Series history. Van Gisbergen's win on Sunday marks the first time a driver has won three straight road course events from the pole since Gordon won Sonoma in 1998, Watkins Glen in 1998 and Sonoma in 1999 from the pole position.
As TNT mentioned, Shane van Gisbergen's win marks the first time a driver has won three-straight road course races from the pole since Jeff Gordon did it between Sonoma 1998 and Sonoma 1999.

For van Gisbergen, tying both of these records puts him in legendary company as he navigates his first full-time Cup Series campaign.
