WWE Evolution takeaways: The heist of the century happens again

Seven years after the inaugural event, WWE held its all-women's Premium Live Event, Evolution, on Sunday night from Atlanta.

Each woman involved made the event one of the best so far this year across WWE.

With the stacked card and excellent performances come takeaways, so here are five takeaways from Sunday night.

The opening match set the tone

The opening match of any WWE show is supposed to be a tone setter and that is exactly what the triple threat match for the Women's Intercontinental Championship did.

Becky Lynch, Bayley and Lyra Valkyria delivered what could be argued as one of the best matches of the night.

Lynch successfully defended her championship and came away from the match victorious as the matched more than delivered as an opener.

NXT women delivered as well

The women from WWE NXT had a tough task in following up the phenomenal triple threat match, but they more than delivered for themselves and the fans.

The NXT women's champion Jacy Jayne defended her championship against Jordynne Grace, and it was with the help of the recently-signed Blake Monroe (formerly known as Mariah May) that she was able to successfully defend her championship.

That may have been it for Trish Stratus

The legendary Stratus returned on "Friday Night Smackdown" a few weeks back and was awarded a championship match against WWE Women's Champion Tiffany Stratton.

It was Stratus' first singles match for a championship in 19 years, and she proved she could still hang with some of WWE's best talent.

At 49, Sunday night very well could have been the last match of her career and if it was, it is undoubtedly one of the greatest careers in WWE history.

Naomi shocks the world

Rhea Ripley and Iyo Sky closed the show in what was a phenomenal match for the WWE Women's World Championship.

There was, however, one unforeseen circumstance for those women in the main event. That was Ms. Money in the Bank, Naomi, who was defeated earlier in the evening by Jade Cargill in a street fight.

Naomi shocked the world by cashing-in her contract and stealing not only the win, but also the title. It was eerily similar to Seth Rollins' Money in the Bank cash-in at WrestleMania 31.

All in all, the women delivered a fantastic show, and if anything, it proved that Evolution should become a yearly Premium Live Event on the WWE calendar.
