Angel Reese extends impressive streak in loss to Lynx

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese recorded her ninth consecutive double-double on Monday in a 91-78 loss to the WNBA-leading Minnesota Lynx.

Last season, Reese's rookie year, she set the record for most consecutive double-doubles (15) in league history. Her current streak is the WNBA's fourth-longest, also trailing Candace Parker (12) and Sylvia Fowles (10). (h/t Across The Timeline)

On Monday, Reese led the Sky with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting while adding 10 rebounds. It was her third 20-10 game this season, the second-most in the league, only trailing Indiana Fever center Aliyah Boston (four).

While the loss was a setback after Chicago won two in a row, Reese's continued growth remains a positive for the Sky.

The 2023 NCAA champion showed off her passing with an excellent find on a drive in the paint in the second quarter when she connected with center Kamilla Cardoso over two Lynx defenders for the field goal.

Later, Reese threw a deep pass to Rebecca Allen, who finished the fast-break opportunity with a lay-up.

Through 21 games, Reese is averaging 14 points, 12.6 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game and shooting 44.6 percent, up from 39.1 percent as a rookie.

Last season, she established herself as one of the league's elite rebounders, and she ranks first in rebounds this year. But it's her improvement in other areas, including passing and efficiency, that reveals Reese's future is as bright as any of the league's several young stars.

The Sky haven't had much team success over the last year-and-a-half, going a combined 20-41 since the start of the 2024 season. But Reese is giving them something to celebrate each time she takes the court. Soon enough, wins should follow.
