New injury raises more questions about this 76ers star

Paul George missed half of his first season with the Philadelphia 76ers, and the nine-time All-Star is now rehabbing from yet another injury.

George underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left knee Monday to treat an injury he suffered during a recent workout, according to ESPN's Shams Charania.

The plan is for George to begin a rehab program and be reevaluated prior to training camp in October.

The Sixers made George their top priority last offseason and signed him to a four-year, $212M contract. George missed the first five games of the year after suffering a bone bruise during a preseason game. He then struggled to find consistency and also had a pinkie injury and groin injury, which resulted in him being shut down for the season in March.

George wound up averaging 16.2 points across 41 games, his lowest scoring output since a 2014-15 season in which he appeared in just six games.

George is 35 and has a lengthy injury history. That is why it was such a big risk for the 76ers to sign him a year ago. A recent report suggested Philadelphia might already want to trade George, though it is highly unlikely that any team would be willing to take on the remainder of George's contract.

The latest injury does not sound like anything major, but it is an unfriendly reminder that George has not been able to remain healthy for lengthy stretches of time. Sixers fans are right to be concerned about the news.
