The WNBA three-point contest on Friday at 8 p.m. ET on ESPN will feature plenty of sharpshooters. Caitlin Clark won't be one of them.
The Indiana Fever guard was ruled out of Wednesday's 98-77 road loss to the New York Liberty because of a lingering groin issue. She reaggravated the injury in the final minute of Tuesday's 85-77 win over the Connecticut Sun in Boston.
Clark, 23, confirmed Thursday she won't participate in All-Star weekend in Indianapolis. She was slated to be in the three-point contest and a captain for the All-Star Game on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. ET on ESPN/ABC.
"I'm so excited for Indy to host WNBA All-Star this weekend. ... I know this will be the best All-Star yet," Clark said in a statement, via ESPN's Alexa Philippou. "I am incredibly sad and disappointed to say I can't participate in the three-point contest or the All-Star Game. I have to rest my body. I will still be at Gainbridge Fieldhouse for all the action and I'm looking forward to helping Sandy [Brondello] coach our team to a win."
Clark's replacement hasn't been named. Now that she's out of the lineup, Liberty guard Sabrina Ionescu and Atlanta Dream guard Allisha Gray should be the focal point of the contest.
Citing odds from DraftKings Sportsbook, Sports Illustrated's Peter Dewey reported Ionescu (+200) is the favorite to win the contest. She has made the league's fourth-most three-pointers (2.5 per game) through 20 games.
Gray, meanwhile, won the contest last season and has remained sharp from three-point range in 2025. She's tied for the league lead in three-point percentage (38.9%) through 22 games and ranks fifth in three-pointers made (2.3 per game).
Surprisingly, Gray has the worst odds (+500) to win the contest, but her experience should give her an edge.
Clark's absence does seem to put a damper on All-Star weekend. But watching Ionescu and Gray go toe-to-toe should still give fans plenty of reason to be excited.
