Denny Hamlin edges Chase Briscoe in double-OT Dover thriller

On a bizarre day at Dover Motor Speedway, Denny Hamlin emerged victorious.

But Sunday's Autotrader EchoPark Automotive 400 threw plenty of monkey wrenches at the NASCAR Cup Series field.

After a fairly normal affair through the first 383 laps, a caution flew with 17 laps to go. Hamlin was leading Christopher Bell after an intense battle for the lead, but a strong, short rain shower blew through and forced the race to be red-flagged for just over 56 minutes.

After NASCAR dried the track and the race went back green, Bell spun on Lap 393 while racing Hamlin for the lead.

That led to another restart, where Chase Briscoe flew through the pack on new tires and got up to second before the caution came out again for a crash on the backstretch.

Briscoe was on the front row for the race's final restart, but Hamlin cleared him on the final lap and held on to score a series-leading fourth victory of 2025 and the 58th of his Cup Series career. The win is also Hamlin's second consecutive at Dover.

"It was tough. Those guys gave me a run for it," Hamlin told TNT Sports. "To have back-to-back here over the last couple years is amazing."

Briscoe, Alex Bowman, Kyle Larson and Ty Gibbs rounded out the top five, with Chase Elliott, Bubba Wallace, Ryan Blaney, Chris Buescher and Brad Keselowski completing the top 10.

Other notable finishers include Kyle Busch in 11th, Tyler Reddick in 12th, defending Cup Series champion Joey Logano in 14th, Bell in 18th and Ryan Preece in 19th.

Elliott now leads the points standings over William Byron by 16 points with five races remaining in the regular season.

The 22nd race of the 2025 Cup Series season will take place at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on July 27. The Brickyard 400 will go green shortly after 2 p.m. ET, with coverage on TNT and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
