Chase Briscoe is proving that he belongs at Joe Gibbs Racing

Just 21 races into his Joe Gibbs Racing tenure, Chase Briscoe is proving that Gibbs made the right decision to sign him as Martin Truex Jr.'s replacement.

That was already apparent to Gibbs following Briscoe's win at Pocono on June 22. It's more apparent following Sunday's race at Dover Motor Speedway, where Briscoe finished second to Denny Hamlin and scored his eighth top-five of the season and his third top-two over the last five races. 

Briscoe wasn't able to use his fresher tires to secure his second victory of 2025, but he put together another great race and continued to quell the doubters who wondered if he was the right fit to take over the No. 19 Toyota. 

"Obviously, racing a teammate, I wanted to make sure at least a JGR car (that) won," Briscoe told TNT Sports after the race. "Yeah, it was honestly a great day. We weren’t probably a second-place race car, we were a fifth to 10th car. Glad we were able to kind of make a good finish out of it.

"Once again, I can’t thank Coach, Toyota, J.P. Morris Johnny Morris, enough for letting me drive this race car. It’s a dream come true. It is fun going to the racetrack every week on Sunday and having a shot to win." 

When you compare Briscoe to Martin Truex Jr. — the man he replaced in the JGR No. 19 — it becomes evident that Briscoe has quickly grown into the role of a driver for a championship-caliber organization. 

Briscoe has already eclipsed Truex Jr.'s total of top-five finishes in 2024, and can tie the amount of top-10s (11) that Truex Jr. accrued last season with just one more top-10 result. Briscoe is also outpacing Truex Jr. in average finish by over three full positions. 

Time will tell whether or not Briscoe can bring a championship to Joe Gibbs Racing, but it seems he's well on his way to being a weekly contender for the first time in his young Cup Series career.
